Constitution gave us rights, not government: Owaisi

Hyderabad: Taking exemption to Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad's announcement that BJP-drove government had given Muslims "holiness", MIM boss Asaduddin Owaisi on Saturday said that rights were given by the Constitution, and not by the administration.

"In any case, Ravi Shankar Prasad is law serve. I might want to let him know, don't utilize 'we'. The Constitution gave us rights. You have not given us rights," Owaisi said.

It was the obligation of the administration to authorize these rights, the MIM boss stated, addressing columnists.

"This is vote based system in India and not Saddam Hussein's democracy....Constitution is preeminent and he needs to comprehend that," the Hyderabad MP said.

Prasad had said yesterday that Muslims don't vote in favor of the BJP, yet the administration has given them "legitimate sacredness".

"We have 13 boss pastors of our own. We are administering the nation. Have we exploited any Muslim noble man working in the business or administration? Have we rejected them? We don't get Muslim votes. I recognize obviously, however have we given them appropriate holiness or not?" Prasad had said.
